Stroll: Describes a gentle walk with time to stop, look, listen, boil a billy and is probably at the rate of 2 km/h.

Walk: Slightly faster than a stroll, as the time to look, stop and boil a billy is curtailed; probably 3 km/h.

Scramble: Still a walk, but not always on the path, steady going, with a rate of probably 4 km/h.

Climb: This involves scrambling over rocks, climbing up gullies, generally steep gradients, but NOT rope climbs. A strenuous 3 km/h.

*: A pleasant morning or afternoon outing.

**: A day’s outing; easy short day.

***: A day’s outing; longish walk.

****: A “sleep-out” in a cave.

*****: An outing NOT to be missed!
